Associate Professor, National University of Singapore Department of Social Work
Co-Director, Social Service Research Centre

Dr. Jungup Lee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Co-Director of Social Service Research Centre at the National University of Singapore. Her research seeks to refine the understanding of how adverse childhood events relate to subsequent behavioural and mental health outcomes for children and adolescents. Specifically, Dr. Leeโs research focuses on identifying multi-level risk and protective factors (e.g., family, peer, school, and community levels) that shape various patterns of externalizing and internalizing behaviours to facilitate the development of more effective intervention strategies for social workers providing services to children, adolescents, and young adults.
Her research focuses on youth mental health and digital well-being, cyberbullying and online harms, school bullying and violence, parenting and peer support, and AI/technology in children and youth development. She has currently worked with several interdisciplinary projects aligned with these interests, including a multipronged study on the mechanisms of cyberbullying, a mixed-method investigation into campus sexual misconduct and online harassment, a longitudinal mixed-method study of parenting styles and childrenโs emotional regulation, projects exploring humanโAI collaboration in reducing mental health stigma and enhancing social service practice, and a cross-cultural study on the integration of technological innovation to support youth mental health and well-being.
Recognized as one of the Worldโs Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier, she has authored over 70 academic publications, including the Handbook of School Violence, Bullying and Safety (Edward Elgar, 2024). Her work appears in leading journals such as Computers in Human Behavior, the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and Trauma, Violence & Abuse, as well as in top humanโcomputer interaction and computational conferences including ACM CHI and ACL. Dr. Lee currently serves as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Public Health (Injury Prevention and Control Specialty Section) and previously served for six years as Co-Editor, Review Editor, and Executive Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development.
She welcomes inquiries from potential collaborators and prospective stduents with strong quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method background, including experience in longitudinal data analysis, participactory analysis, RCTs, and computational social science (e.g., AI and LLMs).
